This book presents the authors' research findings on the dynamics of oil migration, research methodologies, insights and applications in petroliferous basins. It studies the behaviors of oil migration in porous media through physical experiments and numerical simulations, explores the mechanism of oil migration and effects of migration process, and then establishes a migration modeling method by coupling the source, driving forces and carriers. The new method can be used to estimate the amount of migrated hydrocarbons and then predict the location of possible hydrocarbon accumulations in different parts of a basin. This approach is useful for resources assessment and prediction of the distribution of hydrocarbon accumulations. An example utilizing this methodology is presented to study the dynamics of migration and accumulation processes in the southern slope of Dongying Depression in Bohai Bay Basin in China. The book appeals to scientists and professionals working on petroleum prospecting as well as faculty and students in petroleum geology.

Professor Xiaorong Luo is a Research Fellow in the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research interests focus on petroleum geology, numerical modeling, geopressuring, and hydrocarbon migration and accumulation. He attempts to couple migration driving force with efficient carriers in nonmarine basins and to conduct quantitative dynamics analysis on hydrocarbon migration and accumulation, aiming to aid in petroleum exploration in petroliferous basins. His research has established systematic methodologies to characterize overpressures, hydrocarbon migration and accumulation in nonmarine basins.  Likuan Zhang is an Associate Professor of Petroleum Geology at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is engaged in fundamental research of petroleum geology, focusing on quantitative evaluation of fault opening and sealing properties for hydrocarbon migration, the analysis of abnormal pressure occurrence and evolution in sedimentary basins, dynamic mechanism of natural gas migration in the tight sandstone, and geological modeling for hydrocarbon migration and accumulation simulation in actual basins.    Dr. Yuhong Lei is a Senior Engineer of the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he got his Ph.D. in 2010. His research interests focus on petroleum system, characterization of clastic carrier bed, the process of petroleum migration and accumulation, and the reservoir evaluation of shale oil and gas. Dr. Wan Yang, works in the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Rolla, Missouri, USA.  He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company and the Bureau of Economic Geology at The University of Texas at Austin from 1995 to 1999 before joining the academia. His research focuses on sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleoclimatology, and petroleum geology.
