Enzyme-based Biosensors: Recent Advances and Applications in Healthcare (eBook)
XIV, 358 Seiten
Springer Nature Singapore (Verlag)
978-981-15-6982-1 (ISBN)
This book summarizes the principles, protocols, and applications of enzyme-based biosensors in healthcare. After providing a brief history and discussing the development of various biosensors used for medical applications, it explores the principles of enzyme-based biosensors and reviews a number of enzyme immobilization techniques. It then addresses the potential of enzyme-based biosensors in the diagnosis of infectious and non-infectious diseases; illustrates the potential of enzyme-based biosensors for non-invasive monitoring of biochemical biomarkers; and assesses the application of paper-based and microfluidic-based nanobiosensors in medical diagnostics. A one-stop resource on recent advances in enzyme-based biosensors in healthcare, this book will appeal to students, researchers and scientists in a range of disciplines, as well as entrepreneurs, and medical/healthcare professionals.
Prof. Sanjukta Patra works at the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Assam, where she is also the Head of the Centre for Rural Technology. Holding a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from the Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysuru, she is an expert on enzyme engineering, biosensors, enzymatic remediation, and applied and environmental microbiology. She heads research team investigating diverse aspects of enzymes, the challenges in enzymatic processes, and their applications. She has published 49 international peer-reviewed research articles, and 12 book chapters, and holds several patents.
Dr. Debasree Kundu is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Assam. She holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology, with a focus on microbial and enzymatic degradation of nitro-aromatic compounds. She is currently investigating xenobiotic-induced adaptive responses in microbes using proteomic approaches. She has authored 17 research articles and 9 book chapters, and holds a number of patents.
Dr. Manashjit Gogoi is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai. His research focuses on bio-nanotechnology and its application in therapeutics. He has published 9 research articles and 15 book chapters.
