This book outlines the eco-friendly brominating reagents available for the bromination of diverse organic substrates. Emphasis is given to the use of eco-friendly brominating reagents comprised of bromide-bromate salts in varying ratios, as these salts generate only aqueous sodium chloride as waste during the bromination process. In this book, each chapter is focused on specific reactions – aromatic reactions; aliphatic substitutions; addition reactions; oxidation of alcohols to carbonyl compounds; oxybromination of alkenes and alkynes; and oxidative esterification have been described. The book’s description of the use of eco-friendly brominating reagents will be useful to academicians, who can follow the simple but novel methods for the preparation of chemical reagents required for their research works. The book will also be of interest to those involved in industry, as these reagents are economically viable when procured in bulk.

Dr S. Adimurthy received his MSc in chemistry from Bangalore University and his PhD from Bhavnagar University, India. Currently, he is Senior Principal Scientist at the CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute, India. He has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Hohenheim, Germany, and RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He has published over 110 papers and holds 6 international patents and 12 national patents. Dr C. Ravi received his MSc and PhD in 2011 and 2018 respectively. He took up a postdoctoral position at IIT-Kanpur, India from 2018 to 2019, and from 2019 to 2021 he was a CAS-PIFI (Chinese Academy of Sciences President's International Fellowship Initiative) postdoctoral fellow at the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, China. Currently, he is Associate Scientist at Sai Life Sciences, India. Dr Rajendra D. Patil obtained his PhD in 2012 and joined the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore as postdoctoral fellow in 2013. He was also a postdoctoral fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel from 2014to 2015. Currently, he is Assistant Professor at North Maharashtra University, India.
