Upconversion Nanocrystals for Sustainable Technology focuses on the current research directions in upconverting nanocrystals and their role in the development of sustainable technology. Sections focus on the development of low-cost, nontoxic, energy-efficient, upconverting nanocrystals for a wide range of applications. In particular, the book reviews size control synthesis techniques of nanostructured materials in different dimensions, size-dependent properties, and the relationship between material properties and performance. In addition, it discusses the use of upconversion materials for lasers, display, lighting, energy, and biomedical applications—with a focus on the use of these materials to develop more sustainable technologies. This resource is ideally suitable for new entrants in academia and R&D who have a scientific background in materials science and engineering, chemistry, and chemical engineering.

Dr. Vijay B. Pawade is an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Physics at the Laximarayan Institute of Technology, R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur, India. His research focuses on rare earth-doped oxide materials and their applications in LEDs, solar cell devices and photocatalysis processes. He has published 36 research papers in refereed international peer reviewed journals and acts as a reviewer for journals published by Elsevier, Springer, Wiley, Taylor & Francis, RSC, and ACS. He has contributed 12 book chapters on different themes like nonmaterial synthesis, characterization and their applications in energy conversion and storage devices, QDs, Spectroscopy of Lanthanide etc. Prof. Sanjay J. Dhoble is presently working as a professor in the Department of Physics at R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur, India. During his research career, he has worked on the synthesis and characterization of solid-state lighting materials, as well as the development of radiation dosimetry phosphors using thermoluminescence techniques and utilization of fly ash. Dr. Dhoble has more than 780 research publications in international and national peer-reviewed journals, more than 582 research papers are published in Scopus-indexed journals. Dr. Dhoble is an Editor of the journal Luminescence. Dr. Kartik N. Shinde has completed his Ph. D. from R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur, India and postdoctoral studies from Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Engineering, Sejong University, Seoul, South Korea. At present, he is an assistant professor and the Director of R & D at N.S. Science and Arts College, Bhadrawati, India. He has published more than 60 papers in reputed journals and serving as a reviewer of international journals. His research interests are focused on the synthesis of nanocrystalline materials and exploring novel materials and study their PL and TL properties. Prof. Hendrik C Swart is a B1 NRF rated researcher (Internationally acclaimed researchers) and currently a senior professor in the Department of Physics at the University of the Free State. Over the past 22 years he has led research in the area of the degradation of phosphors for field emission displays, as well as developing materials for nano solid state lighting. He has been key in the development of processes to synthesize and deposit thin films of various types of semiconductor nano-particles which will enhance the color, luminescent intensity and lifetime of such displays. He has more than 650 publications in international peer reviewed journals.
