New Technology For Solar Photovoltaic Thermal Comprehensive Utilization Systems: Applications for Cold Regions provides step-by-step coverage of innovative areas of solar/photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) hot water and heating systems, covering principles, structure, modeling, experimental testing, operating characteristics and optimization, and economic evaluation. The book begins by discussing the concepts, classification, advantages, and application methods of current solar hot water/heating systems, phase change storage, and connection methods. Several novel systems are investigated and analyzed, with applications in extreme cold and subtropical regions, including tank-type systems, dual-condenser heat pipe systems, heat pipe PV/T-Trombe wall systems, PV/T road heat pump systems, and PV/T-PCM-PEM electrolyzer hydrogen/heating systems. Finally, other new types of PV/T systems and building design considerations for special climate regions, and perspectives and future directions, are considered. This is a valuable resource for researchers, scientists, advanced students, engineers, R&D professionals, and other industrial personnel with an interest in solar photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) technologies, solar energy, built environment, and renewable energy.

Prof. Yanping Yuan is the Co-Leader of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University, in China. He is Director of the National & Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center for Building Energy Efficiency and Green Building, and has won several national honorary titles, including National Young and Middle-Aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions and the National “Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project”, which are high-level academic titles in China. He received the World Society of Sustainable Energy Technology Innovation Award in 2021. Prof. Yuan’s current interests cover both fundamental (heat and moisture transfer, two-phase heat and mass transfer) and applied aspects (PCM energy storage and renewable energy application). He is the Editor-in-Chief of Energy and Built Environment, Subject Editor of the Journal of Thermal Science, Associate Editor of the Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, and Editorial Board Member of Renewable Energy, Sustainable Cities and Society, and Energies. He has led 28 research projects, has published 185 SCI papers, and was selected in the "World’s Top 2% Scientists 2020". He has supervised 23 PhD students and 9 postdoctoral research fellows. Dr. Jinzhi Zhou is a researcher at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, China. He has taken part in various solar energy projects and designed several new types of solar energy systems. Dr. Liangliang Sun is a researcher at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, China. She began her research on solar energy technology ten years ago when she was a PhD student. She has completed several related projects and published multiple novel papers in this area. Dr. Xiaoling Cao is a senior researcher at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Southwest Jiaotong University, China. Her research focuses on renewable energy heat pump systems and solar energy systems, obtaining considerable funding in a solar energy project. Dr. Min Yu is a “Young Talent” Associate Professor at Southwest Jiaotong University, China. She has been involved in a number of research projects, funded by Innovate-UK, EU, Newton Fund, BEIS, China Ministry of Science and Technology, China National Science Foundation Council and Shanxi Government, and has research experience and knowledge in heat transfer, solar energy, and low carbon heating systems. Notably, she was a leading member of a UK-China project on a novel building integrate-able Solar PV/T systems for building heat and power generation, that was ranked as a 2019 Newton Prize Finalist. Dr. Yu has published over 10 papers, 1 book chapter, and contributed to 3 patent applications, all related to solar energy technologies.
