Wind power is an important renewable clean energy suitable for large-scale development. With the increasing attention paid by countries all over the world to the environmental pollution caused by the consumption of petrochemical energy, the development and utilization of wind power have ushered in a good opportunity in recent years. The scale of wind farms connected to the grid has been continuously expanded, and the construction of offshore wind farms has also ushered in a period of rapid development. Grid-connected wind power has also become a hot spot of current research. Although the traditional high-voltage AC grid-connected technology is mature, its inherent shortcomings limit the large-scale grid-connected access of wind power. MMC-HVDC is a new voltage source HVDC transmission technology, and its outstanding advantages make it suitable for wind power grid connection. Through the combination of theoretical analysis and simulation verification, this paper studies the mathematical model, modulation strategy, circulating current control, wind farm side converter control, power smoothing and low voltage ride through of MMC-HDVC system for wind power grid connection.

Keli Li received Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering from Chongqing University, Chongqing, China, in 2018. He is currently a Lecturer of School of Automation Engineering at Jiangsu University of Science and Technology. His research interests include VSC-HVDC, MMC-HVDC, control electrical machines, and grid integration of renewable energy system.
