This book presents an overview of polymer nanocomposites for use in various high-temperature applications. Specifically, it focuses on the structure and physical properties of nanocomposites based on heterocyclic matrices derived from nitrile monomers such as cyanate esters or phthalonitriles. Due to increasing interest in new heat-resistant, lightweight materials for use in extreme conditions, such as in aeronautics, microelectronics, and various industrial machinery, the high thermal stability of heterocyclic polymer networks, in particular, has attracted much attention from materials researchers and engineers. Featuring a comprehensive review of the most recent advances in research on the structure and physical properties of these promising high-temperature polymer nanocomposites, this book will be of particular interest to materials scientists and engineers working throughout the fields of aeronautical and microelectronic engineering. In general, this book is intended for use by researchers of composite materials and specialists engaged in material selection for work in extreme conditions; for students specializing in materials science; for polymer physicists, and for university libraries.

lt;b>Prof. Dr. Vladimir A. Bershtein:
V. Bershtein was graduated on polymers technology from Technological Institute in St.-Petersburg (Leningrad) in 1954. He completed his PhD degree in 1963 and Dr.Sci. (Phys.-Math.) dissertation in 1980. He is Professor from 1991. From 1965 up to now he is  Leading Scientist and Head of research group in Materials Dynamics Laboratory, Department of Solid State Physics, at the Ioffe Institute (A.F. Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, St.-Petersburg, Russia.
Areas of Scientific Expertise:   (1) the molecular nature of relaxation transitions in polymers; (2) physics of mechanical strength and plasticity of polymeric materials; (3) role of medium in fracture and strengthening of non-metallic solids; (4) properties of hybrid and interpenetrating polymer networks; (5) polymer nanocomposites, structure-property relationships; (6) structure-molecular dynamics-properties relationships in thermally stable polymer materials - polyimides, cyanate ester resin- and phthalonitrile-based nanocomposites; (7) DSC and its applications (co-authored the first book on DSC of polymers in 1991 in Russian and in 1994 in English); (8) Far-, mid- and ATR IR spectroscopy; (9) using  DMA, DSC and TGA techniques combined with the structural methods (TEM, SEM, WAXD, SAXS, EDXS);  (10) original method (developed in Ioffe Institute) of laser-interferometric creep rate spectroscopy (CRS) and its applications.
Publications and Presentations:Prof. Bershtein authored 2 books, 7 book chapters and review articles, as well as over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He presented over 150 papers at international and national conferences, including last presentations on the topic of this book at AIP conference "Times of Polymers" (TOP-2016) in Italy, Polymer Congress in London (2018), "Chemistry of Solids and Functional Materials" conference in St.-Petersburg (2018), European Polymer Congress at Crete (2019), and at PhysicA SPB international conference in St.-Petersburg (2021). In 1992-2019, Prof. Bershtein presented numerous papers and invited seminars internationally, including the United States (eight times), Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, China, Japan, Australia, etc. He participated in a series of international projects, e.g. in CRDF RCO-889 project (2000-2001) and RP1-546-ST-02 project (2002-2004) in collaboration with DuPont Company (Wilmington, DE, USA); within INTAS Network project 97-1936 (1998 -2000), and in the 7th European Framework Programme (IRSES project PIRSES-GA-201(2)3-612484 "NANOBIOMAT" (2014-2017).
