This book introduces the latest developments in data-centric engineering, including different artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches, as well as their wide range of applications for long-term monitoring and health assessment of mechanical, aerospace and complex infrastructure systems. Leading scholars in the field demonstrate these emerging techniques assure the longevity of engineered systems and predict their life cycles.

lt;p>- Professor Mohammad Noori, Mechanical Engineering Department, California Polytechnic State University, USA. mnoori@calpoly.edu

Dr. Noori has over 29 years of experience as a scholar, educator and academic administrator. Dr. Noori has been honored with numerous recognitions for his teaching, research and professional service. The most recent one includes the Isadore T. Davis National Award for Excellence in Collaboration of Engineering Education and Industry, by the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), in June 2012.

In recent years he has served as a special advisor to the Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SNUST) in Korea, and has been a distinguished Visiting Professor at highly ranked universities in Japan and China. Dr. Noori was the RJ Reynolds Professor and the Head of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University (1999-2004), and served as the John Woodman Higgins Professor and the Head of the Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (1991-1999). He also served as one of six National Institute of Aerospace Liaison Professors. Dr. Noori received his BS degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1977, his MS from Oklahoma State University in 1980 and his PhD from the University of Virginia in 1984; all three degrees in Civil Engineering.

Dr. Noori has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of California Space Authority, an organization representing the broad interests of California's space enterprise community. He served as a founding member of the National Institute of Aerospace Board of Directors, he has served as a member of the College of Engineering Advisory Boards at Virginia Tech and Clarkson Universities, and has chaired the external review committees for the assessment of graduate and research programs at several universities. He also had the honor of being invited by President Clinton's Special Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection, as a national expert, to present a Testimony.

Noori is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and is a member of Sigma Xi, Pi Tau Sigma, Chi-Epsilon, and Sigma Mu Epsilon honorary societies.
