Photovoltaic Systems Engineering for Students and Professionals: Solved Examples and Applications examines photovoltaic (PV) power plants in a holistic way. PV installations of all types and sizes – from the smallest plant element to the largest system components – are approached from an electrical engineering perspective and further explained through worked examples. It presents the different forms of energy and the energy conversions between them in a clear and understandable way. This book is an essential resource for both students and practicing engineers working in the solar photovoltaic areas and critical work for all electrical engineers.
Features:
Includes over 100 worked examples and more than 80 end-of-chapter problems
Presents systematic techniques and approaches to problem solving
Includes PowerPoint presentations and a solutions manual for instructors
Considers the effects of environmental conditions on the performance of PV systems
Presents step-by-step design of photovoltaic systems of all sizes from scratch
The author, Mugdesem Tanrioven, was born on September 11, 1970 in Kayseri, Turkey. He received undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degrees from Yıldız Technical University, Department of Electrical Engineering. He studied on his first post-doctoral research at The University of Liverpool, England. Afterwards, he returned to Turkey and started to work as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Yildiz Technical University. He worked for the second time as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of South Alabama between 2003-2005. In addition to the research studies at the University of South Alabama, he taught at the University of South Alabama as a part-time Instructor in 2005. Then he returned to Yildiz Technical University at the end of 2005 and promoted to associate professor in 2016. Between 2011-2016 years, he also worked as a full-time professor at Yıldız Technical University. During the same period he worked as a professor, he also served as the head of the Electrical Engineering Department. He is the founder of the Alternative Energy Systems (AES) Division at Yıldız Technical University. At the same time, he is the founder of the Energy Efficiency, Energy Systems and Smart Grids laboratories in the AES Division. He has conducted dozens of research and industry projects, as well as dozens of postgraduate theses. He has received many awards from IEEE, University and Industry organizations. His articles published in Science Citation indexed journals have received more than 830 citations. He is the Chair of the "International Conference on Electric Power and Energy Conversion Systems (EPECS)" held in Yildiz Technical University for the third time in 2013. He also took part in the technical, organizational and scientific committees of many international conferences. He served as a referee/reviewer for dozens of scientific journals/articles. His main research interests and areas of expertise are Energy Systems, Reliability Analysis, Lighting System Designs, wind and solar power systems, High voltage systems, energy efficiency, smart grids, distributed generation, fuel cells and load management. He is married and has 2 children.
