This book systematically illustrates the dynamic mechanical behaviors and discusses the fundamentals of the constitutive modeling of roller-compacted concrete (RCC), influenced by the construction technique and mix design. Four typical problems are analyzed using laboratory tests, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis, i.e., to illustrate the special dynamic mechanical behaviors of RCC, to reveal the dynamic size-dependence of mechanical properties, to discuss the aggregate size effect on dynamic mechanical properties, and to modify the dynamic constitutive model for RCC. Generally, the constitutive modeling of RCC needs a comprehensive understanding of dynamic size-dependence and aggregate size effect of concrete that coupled with the strain-rate sensitivity. So that, readers can master the modified dynamic constitutive model of RCC to analyze and solve the problems in blast-resistance analysis and protective design of RCC dams.

This book can be used as a postgraduatetextbook for civil and hydraulic engineering in colleges and universities, and as an elective course for senior undergraduates. It can also be used as a reference for relevant professional scientific researchers and engineers in field of protective design of concrete structures.

Professor Sherong Zhang graduated from Tianjin University, China, in 1982 for B.Sc. He obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in 1993 and 2004, respectively. His research interests include the static and dynamic analysis of hydraulic structures, risk and reliability of engineering structures, and stability of underground caverns and slopes. Prof. Zhang undertook or participated in more than ten national and provincial fund projects. He has published more than 200 academic papers and 5 academic monographs and textbooks. He has won many honors and awards, such as "National Science and Technology Progress Award" four times and various provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards eight times.  Dr. Xiaohua Wang received his Ph.D. degree in 2020 from Tianjin University, and then joined Hydraulic Engineering Department of Tianjin University as an assistant research fellow. Now, he has been promoted to associate research fellow since January 2022. Dr. Xiaohua Wang focuses mainly on static and dynamic analysis of hydraulic structures and risk evaluation on engineering structures. He has published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers on international journals. Dr. Xiaohua Wang was selected as the famous teacher and member of teaching team for ideological and political education in colleges and universities 2021, and won three provincial science and technology progress prizes in China. Dr. Chao Wang is an associate professor in School of civil engineering, Tianjin University. His research interests focus on safety evaluation of hydraulic structures, risk analysis of engineering structures, seismic and blast resistance of hydraulic structures and the development of new hydraulic materials. Prof. Wang has produced more than 90 peer reviewed papers published by international journals and conference proceedings up to October 2022, including 45 SCI journal papers. He has won the Outstanding Paper Award 2019 in Journal of Central South University (Natural Science Edition). He has been selected as an innovative talent training project of Tianjin, and also been awarded 4 Provincial Science and technology progress prize in China.
