Innovative Concrete Materials: Geopolymer, Pervious, and Self-healing Concrete focuses on the recent developments and future trends of advanced concrete materials. The book covers new concepts of green, pervious, and self-healing concrete materials that have emerged within the past 20 years, along with  their mechanisms, modeling, practical applications and construction issues, including inspection and quality control. This book also discusses the recently completed projects sponsored by the North Dakota Department of Transportation, Transportation Research Board, and Minnesota Department of Transportation in which the authors were either PI or co-PI on the projects

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in advanced concrete materials. One of the fastest growing applications lies in enhancing durability of concrete materials for maintaining and repairing deficient concrete structures. With wide demands for vast infrastructure systems, rapid and efficient construction using advanced concrete materials in comparison to conventional concretes is appealing in many levels.

Mijia Yang is an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering and Materials at North Dakota State University and had held a research position at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his doctorate in 2006 in Civil Engineering from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Akron. Dr. Yang has a structural engineering background, specializing in advanced construction materials and Fiber Reinforced Plastics Composites for infrastructural applications. He has been involved in the development of advanced concrete materials since 2000 and has co-authored numerous technical papers on these subjects as well as several project reports. ZhiLi (Jerry) Gao is an Associate Professor of Construction Engineering and Materials at North Dakota State University and had held a faculty position at Missouri Western State University. He received his doctorate in 2004 from the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering, Iowa State University. Dr. Gao has extensive experience in the development of concrete materials. He has been involved in numerous concrete material-related projects, including green concrete materials, fly-ash concrete, bacteria concrete and pervious concrete and plastic concrete etc.
