Master the principles of structural dynamics with this comprehensive textbook, in which key concepts are explained through real-world applications. With all the material for a one- or two-semester course, and accompanied by Matlab code, this is the ideal introduction for graduate students in aerospace, mechanical and civil engineering.
Master the principles of structural dynamics with this comprehensive and self-contained textbook, with key theoretical concepts explained through real-world engineering applications. The theory of natural modes of vibration, the finite element method and the dynamic response of structures is balanced with practical applications to give students a thorough contextual understanding of the subject. Enhanced coverage of damping, rotating systems, and parametric excitation provides students with superior understanding of these essential topics. Examples and homework problems, closely linked to real-world applications, enrich and deepen student understanding. Curated mathematical appendices equip students with all the tools necessary to excel, without disrupting coverage of core topics. Containing all the material needed for a one- or two-semester course, and accompanied online by Matlab code, this authoritative textbook is the ideal introduction for graduate students in aerospace, mechanical and civil engineering.

Peretz P. Friedmannis the François-Xavier Bagnoud Professor of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He is a former Editor-in-Chief of theAIAA Journal, and was awarded the 2022 Reed Aeronautics Award – the highest honor bestowed by AIAA for notable achievements in aeronautics – as well as the Alexander Klemin Award, the highest honor bestowed by the VFS for advancing the field of vertical flight aeronautics. He is a Fellow of AIAA and an Honorary Fellow of VFS. George A. Lesieutre is Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Aerospace Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University. He is a Fellow of the AIAA and was awarded the SPIE Lifetime Achievement Award in Smart Structures and Materials. Daning Huang is Assistant Professor of Aerospace Engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, where his research focuses on hypersonic aeroelasticity and aerothermoelasticity, multi-disciplinary analysis and design, reduced-order modeling of nonlinear dynamical systems, and high-performance computing.
