Offers discussion on the theories and principles behind communications systems. This book emphasizes the statistical underpinnings of communication theory. It guides readers through topics ranging from pulse modulation and passband digital transmission to random processes and error-control coding. It includes treatment of digital communications.
This best-selling, easy to read book offers the most complete discussion on the theories and principles behind today's most advanced communications systems. Throughout, Haykin emphasizes the statistical underpinnings of communication theory in a complete and detailed manner. Readers are guided though topics ranging from pulse modulation and passband digital transmission to random processes and error-control coding. The fifth edition has also been revised to include an extensive treatment of digital communications.

Simon Haykin is a University Professor at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. His research interests include nonlinear dynamics, neural networks and adaptive filters and their applications in radar and communications systems. Dr. Haykin is the editor for a series of books on "Adaptive and Learning Systems for Signal Processing, Communications and Control" published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. He is both an IEEE Fellow and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
