The book discusses human factors integration methodolgy and reviews the issues that underpin consideration of key topics such as human error, automation and human reliability assesment.
This book introduces the reader to the subject of Human Factors and provides practical and pragmatic advice to assist engineers in designing interactive systems that are safer, more secure and easier to use - thereby reducing accidents due to human error, increasing system integrity and enabling more efficient process operations. The book discusses human factors integration methodology and reviews the issues that underpin consideration of key topics such as human error, automation and human reliability assessment. The book also examines design considerations, including control room and interface design, and acceptance and verification considerations.

Dr Carl Sandom is an independent consultant in high-integrity systems development, specializing in safety management and human factors. Prior to entering consultancy he spent over 20 years as engineer and manager in the Aerospace and Defence sectors, with commissioned service in the Royal Air Force and posts in industry. He has published and presented numerous human factors and safety papers and has contributed to books on the subject. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Registered Member of the Ergonomics Society. Roger S. Harvey is a Psychologist at QinetiQ Centre for Human Sciences, and has some 30 years Human Factors research and development experience. His main specialisms are project support and assessment, human-computer interface (HCI) design and evaluation, and the application of the UK Human Factors Integration/Systems Engineering initiative for equipment acquisition. In addition he previously served in the Intelligence Corps as a NATO-trained Imagery Analyst. He is a former Chairman of the Council of the Ergonomics Society.
