This book outlines the role of the near-field to far-field (NF-FF) transformations in the framework of EM measurements, their development and the current state of art. The classical NF-FF transformation techniques (without and with probe compensation) are summarized.
Near-field (NF) measurement techniques and the related NF to far-field (FF) transformations are gaining interest for their ability to allow an accurate evaluation of the radiation characteristics of those antennas whose electric sizes do not make it possible to perform direct FF measurements in a controlled and reflection-free environment, such as the anechoic chamber.

This book provides a comprehensive treatment of classical NF-FF transformation techniques and describes the significant improvements achieved in their performance by correctly applying the non-redundant sampling representations of antenna radiated electromagnetic (EM) fields.

Non-Redundant Near-Field to Far-Field Transformation Techniques is designed to meet the needs of students of antenna NF measurements, as well as of engineers and physicists working in the area. It has been written keeping in mind the fulfilment of two main objectives. The former is to provide all the analytical details on the derivation of the classical NF-FF transformation techniques without and with probe compensation, which are not easily available elsewhere in the literature. The latter is to give a comprehensive description of effective representations of the EM fields radiated over arbitrary rotational surfaces, which make use of a non-redundant (i.e., minimum) number of samples collected on these surfaces or along proper spirals wrapping them.

Claudio Gennarelli is the professor of antennas at Salerno University, Italy. He is co-author of about 450 scientific papers, five books on NF-FF transformation techniques and co-author of the chapter "Near-field antenna measurement techniques" in the Handbook of Antenna Technologies. He is a senior member of the IEEE since 2002 and member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Antennas and Propagation. Flaminio Ferrara is an associate professor of electromagnetic fields at Salerno University, Italy. Dr Ferrara is co-author of more than 270 scientific papers. He is co-author of four books on NF-FF transformation techniques and co-author of the chapter "Near-field antenna measurement techniques" in the Handbook of Antenna Technologies. He is reviewer for several journals and member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Antennas and Propagation. Rocco Guerriero is an assistant professor of electromagnetic fields at Salerno University, Italy. Dr Guerriero is co-author of more than 230 scientific papers. He has co-authored three books on NF-FF transformation techniques and is co-author of the chapter "Near-field antenna measurement techniques" in the Handbook of Antenna Technologies. He is reviewer for several journals and conferences and is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Antennas and Propagation and of Electronics. Francesco D'Agostino is an associate professor of electromagnetics at Salerno University, Italy. Dr D'Agostino has co-authored 5 books and over 270 scientific papers, published in peer-reviewed international journals and conference proceedings. He is a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Antenna and Propagation and of Microwave and Wireless Communications. Dr D'Agostino is a fellow of Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA), senior member of the IEEE and a member of EurAAP.
