Immunomodulatory Effects of Nanomaterials: Assessment and Analysis provides an overview of the modulatory impact of nanomaterials on the immune system, as well as evaluative and analytical methods for assessing effects. Sections cover a range of common nanomaterials for biomedical use and how different properties can elicit varied responses from the immune system. The immunomodulatory effects of these materials are then discussed, with coverage on adverse and/or toxic effects on the immune system, as well as desired modulatory effects to improve efficacy of applied therapeutics. Readers will also learn about the best evaluation methods for immunomodulatory effects of nanomaterials and  associated risks.

This book is a useful reference for academics and researchers with an interest in immunology, but it is also idea for those working in the fields of materials science, biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical science, immunology and toxicology.

Prof Mahmoud Elsabahy is a professor of pharmaceutical technology and nanomedicine with more than 15 years of experience in the development of cutting-edge technologies for gene therapy and biomedical delivery applications. He is currently a visiting scholar at the Texas A&M University, Texas, United States; vice dean of the School of Biotechnology and head of Science Academy, Badr University in Cairo (BUC), Cairo, Egypt; and a professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Assiut University, Assiut, Egypt. From 2011 to 2020, he was the assistant director of the Laboratory for Synthetic-Biologic Interactions at Texas A&M University. He has previously contributed to four books on nanomedicine and nanomaterials for biomedical applications. Prof Elsabahy completed M.Sc. and PhD degrees from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Montreal “Pharmaceutical Technology” (Montreal, Canada). He has contributed to c. 90 top peer-reviewed publications, which mainly focused on furthering the use of nanotechnology in the targeted delivery of therapeutic and diagnostic agents, for which he has received several national and international prestigious awards.
