This book focus on innovation, main objectives are to bring the community of researchers in the fields of mechanical design together; to exchange and discuss the most recent investigations, challenging problems and new trends; and to encourage the wider implementation of the advanced design technologies and tools in the world, particularly throughout China. The theme of 2021 ICMD is “Interdisciplinary and Design Innovation” and this conference is expected to provide an excellent forum for cross-fertilization of ideas so that more general, intelligent, robust and computationally economical mechanical design methods are created for multi-disciplinary applications.

Jianrong Tan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Full Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University, China. He received his M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from Zhejiang University. He is currently a Full Professor at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University and Vice Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Society of China. His current research interests include theory of mechanical design, digital design and manufacturing, and CAD&CG. He has published eight books and authored or coauthored over 140 papers and invited presentations for international conferences and symposia. He has received the 2nd place prize in China’s national award for science and technology progress four times (2005, 2007, 2011 and 2012), and received the 1st place prize in Zhejiang province’s award for scientific and technological progress seven times.
