This book brings together real-world accounts of using voltage stability assessment (VSA) and transient stability assessment (TSA) tools for grid management. Chapters are written by leading experts in the field who have used these tools to manage their grids and can provide readers with a unique and international perspective.  Case studies and success stories are presented by those who have used these tools in the field, making this book a useful reference for different utilities worldwide that are looking into implementing these tools, as well as students and practicing engineers who are interested in learning the real-time applications of VSA and TSA for grid operation.

lt;p>Sarma "NDR" Nuthalapati is currently working as a Principal Engineer for Dominion Energy  in Richmond, VA, USA. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, USA. In the past, he was at Electric Reliability Council of Texas, Inc. (ERCOT), USA, with the Advanced Network Applications Group of the Operations Support Department from August 2007 to March 2016. At ERCOT, he was involved in the area of Energy Management System (EMS) network applications and active in a Synchrophasor Project funded by the US Department of Energy (DOE) under the Smart Grid Initiatives Grants. Prior to joining Dominion in August 2020, he worked with PEAK Reliability, WA and Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), TX as Principal Engineer and Supervisor for Energy Management Systems, respectively. He is currently the Co-Chair of the IEEE Task Force on Synchrophasor Applications in Power System Operation and Control. He also actively participates in the North American SynchroPhasor Initiative (NASPI) Working Group meetings and was given NASPI 'Control Room Solutions Task Team Most Valuable Player' Award in October 2015 for "being a leading organizer and contributor to the Control Room Solutions Task Team (CRSTT) and the NERC Synchronized Measurement Subcommittee and a public champion for Synchrophasor Technology". He was also given NASPI 'CRSTT Volunteer of the Year' Award in April 2018. He is the editor for the book by Springer on 'Power System Grid Operation Using Synchrophasor Technology', 2019. He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES). He is also a distinguished lecturer in the IEEE PES Distinguished Lecturer Program. Sarma earned his BTech (Electrical Engineering) and MTech (Power Systems Engineering) degrees from National Institute of Technology Warangal, India (formerly called as Regional Engineering College Warangal) in 1983 and 1986 respectively. He obtained his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Delhi, India in 1995. His research was focused on Network Reconfiguration in Distribution Systems under the supervision of the late Dr. K.S. Prakasa Rao. This work involved developing new algorithms for various aspects of network reconfiguration such as reconfiguration for Service Restoration, Load Balancing, and Loss Minimization in Distribution Systems. These methods are relevant in the context of Smart Grids and Distribution Automation.
