The chapters of this work provide an overview of the current state in the quantitative determination of visual functioning and rehabilitation of visual impairments. Field work from both scientific research and practical experiences in education and rehabilitation is reported.
The chapters of the work provide an overview of the current state in the quantitative derterminaiton of visual functioning (physiological optics, psychophysics and neurophysiology) and rehabilitation of visual impairments (training and techniques through optics, video display, lighting) and social studies in rehabilitation (orientation and mobility skills, training in daily activities, occupational skills). Field work from both scientific research and practical experiences in education and rehabilitation is reported upon with special emphasis on the construciton of an integrative model in rehabilitation, comprising the physics of visual assessment as well as learning of rehabilitative occupational skills. Detailed accounts of the integrative approach in low-vision rehabilitation of special interest groups as the elderly, young children and developing countries complete this reference work.
