Design and Operation of heat Exchangers and Their Networks presents a comprehensive and detailed analysis on the thermal design methods for the most common types of heat exchangers, with a focus on their networks, simulation procedures for their operations, and measurement of their thermal performances. The book addresses the fundamental theories and principles of heat transfer performance of heat exchangers and their applications and then applies them to the use of modern computing technology. Topics discussed include cell methods for condensers and evaporators, dispersion models for heat exchangers, experimental methods for the evaluation of heat exchanger performance, and thermal calculation algorithms for multi-stream heat exchangers and heat exchanger networks.

Professor Wilfried Roetzel is retired professor and was head of the Institute of Thermodynamics of the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg, Germany until 2001. He is Advisory Professor (1994) of the Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NUST) in China and gave lectures at NUST. He also presented lectures at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, Cal., USA. He is Fellow of Wessex Institute of Great Britain (2002) and Member of the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg (2004). Dr Xing Luo is a senior engineer at the Institute of Thermodynamics, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University Hannover. His research interests include enhanced heat transfer and heat exchangers, process integration and numerical heat transfer. He is author of the chapter on heat exchanger networks in “VDI Heat Atlas”. Professor Dezhen Chen has been working in thermal and environmental engineering institute, school of mechanical engineering, Tongji University as lecturer, associate professor and professor since 1997. She was the leader of several projects associated with high-temperature heat exchanger development for pyrolysis applications.
