This book presents the fundamentals of spectral imaging and discusses the technical challenges in new and emerging applications including hardware and software implementations. Different innovative solutions for applications are discussed such as nanophotonics including plasmonic photonic bandgap and nanowire based structures in developing compact, high performance multispectral imagers. Image processing, analyzing, and interpretation of spectral data are discussed. Various applications of spectral imaging including food quality testing, dermatology, point-of-care diagnosis are presented.

Simarjeet Singh Saini is currently an Associate Professor and Associate Chair, Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He did his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2001 and a B.Tech. (Hons.) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur in 1996. His research interests broadly range from nanostructures for enhance light matter interactions; semiconductor lasers including mid-infrared lasers; photonic integrated circuits and sensors for monitoring quality of food, water and air. His research has resulted in 5 companies currently employing over 150 personnel. Farnoud Kazemzadeh is currently the Vice President, Research and Development at Nanolytix Inc., a Canadian social enterprise offering QA/QC sensing solutions for the food, water and air industries as well as diagnostic and life-style healthcare solutions. Farnoud received a B.Sc. in Astronomy and Astrophysics from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada in 2008, an M.Sc. in Space Science from the International Space University, Strasbourg, France in 2009, an M.A.Sc. and a Ph.D. in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada in 2011 and 2016, respectively. He has authored numerous refereed journal and conference publications and patents in various fields such as astronomy, optics, imaging, computer vision, image processing, human factors, and quantum optics. He specializes in research, development, and productization of interferometric, multi-spectroscopic, hyper-spectroscopic, and holographic vision and sensing solutions for various application fields such as food, healthcare, space, water, air, astronomy, and natural resources. Alexander Wong, P.Eng., is currently the Canada Research Chair in Medical Imaging Systems, co-director of the Vision and Image Processing Research Group, and associate professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He had previously received the B.A.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 2005, the M.A.Sc. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 2010.
