Dr. Xu Wu obtained his PhD in 2011 at Newcastle University, supervised by electrochemist Prof. Keith Scott. He then became a postdoc research associate at Newcastle University for two years. Then he had another two years postdoc experience at Imperial College London, before he became a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China. His research background on electrochemical engineering includes polymer electrolyte fuel cells, water electrolysers, electroplating, and photo-electrochemical cells, with focuses on catalysts synthesis, ion membrane preparation, devices fabrication, modelling, and novel materials development. He has authored more than 30 journal publications in core journals such as Journal of Power Sources. His current research activities are mainly on electrochemical engineering for energy and environment, including used battery recycling, power to gas technology, pollution control electrochemistry, regenerative fuel cells, and solar fuels. Dr. Jiujun Zhang is a Principal Research Officer and Core Competency Leader at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). Dr. Zhang received his B.Sc and M.Sc in Electrochemistry from Peking University in 1982 and 1985, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Electrochemistry from Wuhan University in 1988. After completing his Ph.D., he took a position as an associate professor at the Huazhong Normal University for two years. Starting in 1990, he carried out three terms of postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology, York University, and the University of British Columbia. Dr. Zhang has over thirty years of R&D experience in theoretical and applied electrochemistry, including over twelve years of fuel cell R&D (among these six years at Ballard Power Systems and six years at NRC-IFCI), and three years of electrochemical sensor experience. His research focuses on fuel cells, batteries and supercapacitors. Dr. Zhang has more than 400 publications with more than 16000 citations, including 240 papers in refereed journals, 15 books, 36 book chapters, 110 oral presentations (50 keynote/invited speeches), and also holds over 10 US/EU/CA patents. He has also produced in excess of eighty industrial technical reports. Dr. Zhang holds 13 Adjunct/Honored professorships, including one at the University of Waterloo and one at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Zhang is a Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), the Chairman of the International Academy of Electrochemical Energy Science (IAOEES), and an active member of The Electrochemical Society (ECS), The America Chemical Society (ACS), and Canadian Institute of Chemistry (CIC).
