Describes the requirements of a fluorescein angiography clinic, the interpretation of a normal angiogram, the advantages of this particular investigation and the classification of abnormal fluorescence.
Fluorescein angiography is being used extensively as a valuable aid to the study and treatment of various chorioretinal diseases. It has been responsible for some major advances in understanding the mechanisms of certain disease processes. For fluorescein angiography the patient is given an intravenous injection of fluorescein dye and special photographs are taken of the back of the eye. The resulting images of the blood vessels enable diagnosis to be made for diseases as diverse as brain tumours and diabetes. This book dispels any apprehension the practitioner may have in performing and interpreting fluorescein angiography. Why and how fluorescein helps the ophthalmologist is explained in a clear and concise manner and the reader is taken through each major disorder in which the fluorescein angiogram is likely to be useful. Dr Nanjiani also takes the trouble to point out where a fluorescein angiogram is not likely to add significantly to diagnosis and management, a great help to those with less experience in this field.
This book describes in detail the requirements of a fluorescein angiography clinic, the interpretation of a normal angiogram, the advantages of this particular investigation, and the classification of abnormal fluorescence. Chapters on the interpretation of diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy, and iris and anterior segment angiography are also included. The complications of fluorescein angiography are comprehensively described together with the steps required for dealing with them. This book is intended for postgraduate diploma and fellowship students of ophthalmology; ophthalmologists, neurophthalmologists, neurosurgeons, and diabetologists.
