This book provides an expert view into the current technologies that are revolutionizing the field of solid organ transplantation. This unique book provides insight into progress made in areas spanning robotic surgery to tissue engineering and also gives a glimpse into what may lie ahead for this innovative specialty. Topics covered include nanotherapy, machine perfusion, artificial organ development, robotics in transplant surgery, mobile health technology, stem cell therapy, and ex vivo repair of organs. This is an ideal book for biomedical engineers, physicians and surgeons, general and transplant surgeons, medical students, medical and surgical trainees, and transplant procurement technicians.

Satish Nadig is an Associate Professor in the Depts. of Surgery, Micro/Immuno, and Pediatrics and Associate Vice Chair of Research for the Dept. of Surgery. He is an adult and pediatric transplant surgeon and directs the NIH-funded Lee Patterson Allen Transplant Immunobiology Laboratory at MUSC. Dr. Nadig holds a Doctor of Philosophy in immunology from Oxford and has served as a national and international visiting professor. He has been identified as a 'Key Opinion leader' in the Transplantation Society as well as a 'Rising Star' in the ASTS. Dr. Nadig is the co-founder and C.M.O. of ToleRaM Nanotech, LLC. His research interests are focused on innovations in transplantation tolerance including cellular therapy, biotechnology, and transplant immunology. Dr. Nadig was named as one of Charleston, South Carolina's Forty under 40 in 2015 and is featured in a 2016 TEDx Talk on organ donation.

Jason Wertheim is an Assistant Professor of Surgery (Organ Transplantation) and Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and McCormick School of Engineering. In addition to his medical degree he also holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Wertheim's research focuses on developing tissue engineering and regenerative medicine-based approaches for renal and hepatic replacement therapies. His clinical interest is centred in abdominal organ transplantation. He is an international authority on tissue engineering and serves as the Chairperson of the Cellular Transplantation Committee of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He is an NIH funded investigator and is the recipient of numerous awards on his innovative research. Additionally, he serves as the Co-Editor in Chief of Organogenesis, Section Editor of Current Transplantation Reports and is on the editorial board of Vascular Composite Allotransplantation.
