An exploration of all aspects of implant dentistry. This reference covers all aspects from the basics of anatomy and medical management, through prosthetics and surgery, to bone grafting and guided tissue regeneration.
This text reviews anatomy of the jaws, wound healing of the soft and hard tissues, biomechanics of implants and prostheses, and medical and radiographic preoperative assessment to enhance basic understanding. It also describes principles of reconstruction with overdentures, hybrid and fixed prostheses to ensure sound prosthetic reconstruction and features a chapter on the secure connection between prosthesis and implant to guard against mobility. The book details six commonly used implant systems in separate chapters to help determine which system is most appropriate and investigates basic and advanced surgical techniques, including stent fabrication, nerve repositioning, guided tissue regeneration and sinus grafting. The regulatory process and the medical/legal ramifications of implant use and the soft tissue/microbiological aspects of dental implants are also discussed.

Dr. Block graduated from the University of Rochester in 1975, attaining both a BA in Biology and a BS in Biomedical Engineering. He completed his dental training at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1979, receiving his D.M.D. cum laude in a special field.
