This book focuses on bioconversion of lignocellulosic residues into single-cell protein, which offers an alternative to conventional proteins (such as soybean meal, egg protein or meat protein in animal feed) that is not affected by the climate. It provides an overview of the general uses of lignocellulosic residues and their bioconversion into single-cell protein using microorganisms, as well as the recovery of the valuable by-products. It also explores the benefits and potential drawbacks of single-cell protein, with an emphasis on the economic advantages of such processes. Given its multidisciplinary scope, the book represents a valuable resource for academics and industry practitioners interested in the production of single-cell protein from lignocellulosic residues.

Dr. Pratima Bajpai has a PhD from the National Sugar Institute (NSI) in Kanpur, India. She is presently a Technical Consultant in the Pulp and Paper Industry and has over 30 years of experience in research at the National Sugar Institute, University of Saskatchewan and University of Western Ontario, Canada, and Thapar Center for Industrial Research and Development in India. She has also worked as a Visiting Professor at the University of Waterloo, Canada and as a Visiting Scientist at Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan.

Dr. Bajpai's main areas of expertise are industrial biotechnology, pulp and paper, and environmental biotechnology. She has made major contributions to the field of industrial biotechnology and is a recognized expert in the field. Currently, she is actively engaged in commercializing biotechnological processes for the pulp and paper industry. Her research has produced more than 150 publications in leading International Journals and conference proceedings. She has written several advanced-level technical books on the environmental and biotechnological aspects of pulp and paper, which have been published by leading publishers-PIRA International, Springer, Miller Freeman, John Wiley and Elsevier Science. She has also contributed chapters to a number of books and encyclopedias, obtained 11 patents and written several technical reportsDr. Bajpai is an active member of the American Society of Microbiologists and is a reviewer for many international research journals.
