My Relationship with Food - More than a cookbook. One woman’s journey to better eating.
My Relationship with Food features 100 delicious recipes, each mirrored by beautiful photography. All the dishes are gluten-free and see minimal use of dairy and refined sugars. The recipes are seasonal, helping you make the most of the best produce available to create nourishing meals. Perfect for those wishing to build on their repertoire, introducing you to some inspiring breakfasts, lunches, soups, sides, dinners and treats.
It also features the personal story of Chef, Lisa Roukin and her journey to developing a better relationship with food. Learn how, with some clever cooking knowledge and experimentation, she turned her life around after struggling with bad food habits for many years.
This isn’t an ordinary cookbook. Yes, there are delicious recipes, gorgeous photos and clear instructions. But that’s where the similarity ends. This book is personal. It’s my story of how I’ve been able to manage my relationship with food.
I can hear you saying `relationship with food’ what does that mean? But, think about it. Consider how often you’ve been sitting
at a table and someone announces `I don’t eat meat’, `I’ve just lost three stone get that fudge cake away – quick!’, `I don’t eat green vegetables’ or admits that they weren’t fed well as a child. These are all types of food relationships.
Now, think about a bad day at work and that desire to come home to a frozen triple- stuffed pizza and half-bottle of wine. Or remember being `treated’ with an ice-cream cone or a sticky pudding after an insipid school dinner? Food in these cases has altered from sustenance to comfort, and the relationship with food has shifted.
But if - like many of us - your relationship with food is not healthy, you have to face that 'relationship' at least three times a day for the rest of your life.
Worse yet, you have to decide what to put on your plate and in your mouth. You may have trouble when going out to eat with family or friends. But you don’t have to continue like this.
Here’s where I’d like to come in and change things.
I’ve gone through some tough food relationships, and as you read on, I’ll share with you tips on becoming healthy and nourished. My journey isn’t that unusual, but it does have a happy ending.
After all, it is not all about `what’ you are eating but how you can make small alterations to help your relationship with food become an enjoyable one.
Our journey starts here.

Lisa Roukin, a Le Cordon Bleu chef, and known also through `Cook with Lisa’, has been demonstrating healthy, contemporary cooking to London’s young professionals, families and children since 2008. That same year she was a finalist on “The F Word” leading her to realise that she wanted to be her own boss in the kitchen! Her career in the catering trade has included: Mirabelle, L’Escargot, Quo Vadis, e Ivy and Le Caprice. She currently provides the world’s largest online supermarket, Ocado, with gluten free recipes. Going forward, Lisa aims to continue on the healthy path she has found. Her emphasis also continues to be on creating nourishing recipes that encourage people of all ages and skill levels to cook together. Through her own challenging journey, she has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience that has led her to become a gluten-free expert, and industry leader in healthy eating. Lisa has now devoted her life to sharing her passion and encouraging, supporting and inspiring people to change their dietary habits for the better. She spends much of her time teaching, which begins with educating children to understand the importance of good nutrition, instilling good habits from an early age. Lisa also teaches cooking to private clients in their homes, and regularly visits employees of leading blue chip companies, including Google and Facebook, running interactive cookery workshops, and advising on the benefits of mindful eating. A partnership with an established contract caterer, involves offering healthy options to a number of city banks, encouraging nutritional eating in the workplace. Lisa firmly believes that everyone has their own relationship with food, from allergies or intolerances, dieting and being faced with an eating issue, to simply having a love of all things edible. Through many ups and downs, Lisa eventually turned her own relationship with food around. She adopted a gluten-free diet, limiting dairy products and refined sugars. She sees food as a ritual and relishes the entire process, from the exhilaration of creating new wholesome recipes, to the joy in sharing them through her work, and with her family and friends. Lisa is now in her element, fulfilling a lifelong ambition; inspiring people to see food as a friend, not as an enemy.
