Dr. John R. Fletemeyer has a 30-year background in professional aquatics. He is currently a research professor at Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research. He devotes most of his academic time to drowning research and to the development of drowning prevention education programs. Dr. Fletemeyer has served as a consultant for the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, U.S. Border Patrol, the YMCA of the USA, the Boy Scouts of America, and San Diego Water Authority. He is the recipient of the Paragon Award, the Judge Martin Award, the 25 Year NAUI Service Award and the “Top 100 Aquatic Professionals in America” Award. He has served in several, elected leadership positions including the chairman and vice chairman of the International Swimming Hall of Fame, Chairman of the National Aquatics Coalition, President of the SE Region of the U.S.L.A. and the National Education Chairman of the United States Lifesaving Association. He the author of numerous peer reviewed articles and two books including, “Drowning, New Perspectives in Intervention and Prevention. He has investigated over 1,000 drowning deaths and has appeared on 60 Minutes. In addition, Dr. Fletemeyer is the founder of the Aquatic Law and Safety Institute. Professor Michael Flynn is a professor at Nova Southeastern University, and primarily teaches courses in personal injury law including torts, medical malpractice and product liability, consumer protection law, the Uniform Commercial Code and courses in lawyering skills including Civil Procedure, trial advocacy, pre-trial practice and client interviewing and counseling and negotiation. He is a graduate of the Gonzaga University School of Law and the Chair of the Consumer Protection Board for Broward County and a member of the Broward County Justice Association, The American Justice Association, The Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida Bar and is licensed to practice in both the state and federal courts in Washington State and Florida. Professor Flynn is a frequent presenter in seminars and conferences.
