On Design of Coherent Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output Radars with Sparse Antenna Arrays - Andreas Josef Kirschner

The multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) principle is traditionally well-known from communication applications. During the last years, this term has also found its way into radar system theory, signal design and signal processing, resulting in a large variety of experiments and publications.

This thesis covers especially two topics: coherent MIMO radars and arrays with minimum redundancy. A theoretical approach to combine both fields is demonstrated. Furthermore, possible errors and deviations in hardware implementations are faced and encountered successfully in order to apply the retrieved principles on real radar sensors.
