This nontechnical treatment of oil and gas production is an excellent introduction for anyone from petroleum engineers and geologists new to their careers to financial, marketing, legal, and other professionals and their staffs interested in the industry. E&P service company personnel will find it particularly beneficial in understanding the roles played by their clients. Not only does it cover production fundamentals, but it backs up to give the necessary upstream background—geology, origins of oil and gas, and ownership and land rights—as well as surface operations and even production company strategy development.

Key Features:

A comprehensive view of the entire E&P function
Geology and the origins of petroleum
Reservoir characteristics and behavior
Expanded coverage of drilling and hydraulic fracturing
Conventional and not-so-conventional (oil sands plus shale oil and gas) producing operations
Production problems and solutions
The different types of companies and jobs in the oil patch and how they interact

Mr. Martin S. Raymond, veteran of more than 45 years in the E&P industry, retired as senior vice president of E&P for the J.M. Huber Corp. During his career he held engineering, production, and management positions with Shell Oil and Forest Oil. He earned a BA from Princeton University in geology and a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Since retirement, Mr. Raymond consults on E&P activities to a variety of entities as well as lecturing at various universities on E&P processes and economics. Dr. William L. Leffler retired from Royal Dutch Shell after 36 years’ service. During his career he spent time in E&P in London and in refining, marketing, petrochemicals, and corporate planning in the United States. He earned a BS in industrial management from the Sloan School at MIT and an MBA and PhD at New York University. His other PennWell titles include Deepwater Exploration & Production: A Nontechnical Guide, Natural Gas Liquids in Nontechnical Language, Petroleum Refining in Nontechnical Language, Oil & Gas Pipelines in Nontechnical Language, and Petrochemicals in Nontechnical Language.
