The first comprehensive look at the emergence of paper as a highly enabling material for a broad range of applications. With the chapters contributed by leading technologists, scientists, and engineers, the book begins by discussing the physical properties and varieties of papers, including the intrinsic microfluidic properties.
The first comprehensive look at the emergence of paper as a highly enabling material for a broad range of applications. With the chapters contributed by leading technologists, scientists, and engineers, the book begins by discussing the physical properties and varieties of papers, including the intrinsic microfluidic properties. It then goes on to describe paper as a functional material for a number of applications in life science and health diagnostics, as well as for electronic devices and circuits in different applications and environments, such as flexible displays and solar cells. The authors conclude with a discussion of future technological advances and applications. An invaluable reference suitable for a wide audience, ranging from material developers to fluid mechanics engineers, and from academic researchers to industrial developers.

James W. Stasiak is Senior Technologist at Hewlett-Packard Company in Corvallis, USA. He obtained his Master's degree in Physics from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, USA, in 1979. As a senior member in HP's Printing and Technology Development Lab, he is responsible for defining and leading strategic programs that extend digital printing technology into new domains beyond the boundaries of ink and paper. His pioneering work in inkjet-based fabrication and his industry leadership has helped to establish digital fabrication and additive manufacturing as revolutionary alternatives to traditional analog methods. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings and book chapters as well as 30 granted US patents. Devin A. Mourey is Engineering Research Manager at Hewlett-Packard Company in Corvallis, USA. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Materials Science from Cornell University, Ithaca, USA, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Pennsylvania State University, State College, USA. Over the past 10 years his work has spanned a range of flexible electronics and advanced inkjet printing technologies, including low temperature deposited organic and inorganic semiconductors for use in displays, sensor arrays, and nanoscale devices. He has authored more than 60 peer reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings and book chapters, as well as 15 granted patents.
