Helicene Chemistry
Springer Berlin (Verlag)
978-3-662-53166-2 (ISBN)
This book systematically reviews recent advances in the synthetic methods and applications of helicenes. The first part of this book introduces the nomenclature and structural features of helicenes. The second part reviews several classic and useful methods as well as recently-developed approaches for the preparation and functionalization of helicenes, including photocyclization and Diels-Alder reactions, which are two important breakthroughs in the syntheses of helicenes. In the last part, the applications of helicenes in asymmetric syntheses, molecular machines, molecular recognition, self-assembly and other fields are discussed. This book provides a useful reference source for researchers and graduate students working not only in the area of helicene chemistry, but also in other research areas including materials science, supramolecular chemistry, coordination chemistry, and physical organic chemistry.
Chuan-Feng Chen is a Professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.
Chuan-Feng Chen is now working as a full professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He was selected for the One Hundred Talents Program by CAS in 2000, and awarded the National Science Fund of China for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2006. He also received the Second Prize of the Science and Technology Award of Beijing, Government Special Allowance of China, and Zhu Li Yue Hua Excellent Teacher Award of CAS. Prof. Chen started his independent research work at ICCAS in 2001, and so far he has been the author of more than 220 scientific publications. His current research interests include supramolecular chemistry based on novel synthetic hosts, organic functional materials, and helicene chemistry. Yun Shen received his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Chen at ICCAS in 2014, where his research focused on the synthesis of helicenes and their applications in asymmetric catalysis. After graduation, he did postdoctoral research on high energy density cathode material for lithium ion battery at Cornell University with Prof. Héctor D. Abruña. He co-founded the Lionano Inc., and serves as CTO for the development of clean energy techniques and materials.
