Seismic Hydrocarbon Exploration
Springer International Publishing (Verlag)
978-3-319-40435-6 (ISBN)
This book presents the essential principles and applications of seismic oil-exploration techniques. It concisely covers all stages in exploration activities (data field acquisition, data processing and interpretation), supplementing the main text with a wealth of (>350) illustrations and figures. The book concentrates on the physics of the applied principles, avoiding intricate mathematical treatment and lengthy theoretical reasoning. A further prominent feature is the inclusion of a separate chapter on 3D surveying techniques and another, equally important chapter on seismic digital signals and the aliasing problem, which is presented in an accessible form.
The book is designed to meet the needs of both the academic and industrial worlds. University students and employees of oil-exploration companies alike will find the book to be a valuable resource.
Hamid Nassar Alsadi is a native of Hit, Anbar, Iraq. He received his BSc in Geology, Physics, and Mathematics from Reading University, UK, his MSc in Geophysics from Durham University, UK, and his PhD in Seismology from Uppsala University, Sweden. Since 1972, he has mainly worked in the field of 2D and 3D seismic data processing. During this time he was equally active in the academic domain, where he taught courses, provided thesis supervision for post-graduate students, and published a number of books and papers in both English and Arabic. After retiring from his work with the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, he served as a consultant for oil-exploration companies at home and abroad, and conducted numerous (> 45) training courses for oil-exploration personnel.

"Seismic Hydrocarbon Exploration is an incredibly timely book, given the recent advances in oil and gas production from shales. ... The author has considerable experience and has developed a first-rate, highly readable text on the subject. ... Each chapter subject is enhanced with clear, simple, and colorful illustrations. ... this reviewer strongly recommends this textbook for students and professionals interested in an up-to-date discussion of modern seismic exploration methods. Summing Up: Highly recommended. Lower-division undergraduates and above; faculty and professionals." (M. S. Field, Choice, Vol. 54 (8), April, 2017)
