The International Conference on Advanced Materials, Structures and Mechanical Engineering 2015 (ICAMSME 2015) was held on May 29-31, Incheon, South-Korea. The conference was attended by scientists, scholars, engineers and students from universities, research institutes and industries all around the world to present ongoing research activities. This proceedings volume assembles papers from various professionals engaged in the fields of materials, structures and mechanical engineering.

Volumes 3 and 4 of Characterisation and Engineering Properties of Natural Soils are part of a unique series on this topic. The major goal of the preceding two volumes in the series, published in 2002, was to compile knowledge on natural soils into a single, authoritative reference work. Volumes 1 and 2 of Characterisation and Engineering Properties of Natural Soils provided a valuable reference source for researchers and professionals. Volumes 3 and 4 report on new, emergent research into the characterisation and engineering properties of soil types other than those documented in the first two volumes. Emphasis is placed on narrowing the gap between the disciplines of soil characterisation and geostatistics, drawing together knowledge of the physical understanding of microstructures on the one hand, and the impact of statistical variations on the other. Volumes 3 and 4 of Characterisation and Engineering Properties of Natural Soils review laboratory testing, in-situ testing, and methods of characterising natural soil variability, illustrated by actual site data. Less well-documented soil types are highlighted and the various papers take into account location and distribution, engineering geology, composition, state and index properties, structure and engineering properties. Also treated is the quality and reliability of data with reference to methods of sampling and testing, and its relevance to engineering problems. Characterisation and Engineering Properties of Natural Soils will be useful to consulting engineers, geotechnical engineering academics and researchers, and civil engineers and soil scientists.

Dr. Mosbeh R. Kaloop, PhD, MsC, BsC, is a senior structure and civil engineer. He has been an assistant professor within the Faculty of Engineering at Mansoura University since 2010. His principal research interests are in sensor fusion and signal processing for structures health monitoring and geodetic positioning, surveying engineering and structural deformation monitoring and analysis. From 2010 he teaches the courses "Surveying Engineering applications and Theory of Error Analysis" and "Construction Equipment and Methods" of undergraduate and "Computer Applications" of postgraduate students. He also teaches training courses "Steel Structure Design, Inspection, Maintenance & Durability" and "blast resistance building" at Haward Technology Middle East from 2011. He has published more than 20 papers mainly for the civil and structural health monitoring and serves as a reviewer in more than 8 scientific journals and evaluator for ERAfrica funded researcher. He is currently a visiting professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering department at Incheon National University, Republic of Korea.
