This is a comprehensive study of atrial and ventricular fibrillation. It features five main sections: sudden cardiac death, ventricular fibrillation and defibrillation, atrial fibrillation and defibrillation, clinical aspects of ICD therapy, and fundamental aspects of ICD therapy.
Researchers dedicated to the fundamental and clinical aspects of fibrillation and defibrillation, together with involved physicians, have exchanged their first hand research and experiences and incorporated it into this monograph which presents and reviews their latest results. The four parts of this book provide updated information on sudden cardiac death and the electrophysiology of atrial and ventricular fibrillation. Special consideration is given to device therapy, with the goal of providing the reader with useful information for the decision-making process in medical practice. This book should become a standard reference item to clinics worldwide where therapy for fibrillation is being carried out. It contains essential information of the use of ICD implants including instructions on titration and follow-up. It should be a basic text for this area of medical endeavour.

Maurits Allessie is an emeritus professor of physiology at Maastricht University. As an electrophysiologist he developed better insights in atrial fibrillation. Martin Fromer is the editor of Atrial and Ventricular Fibrillation: Mechanisms and Device Therapy, Volume 9, published by Wiley.
