Although heat pumps save fossil fuel energy, they employ CFCs - a contributor to the greenhouse effect - in their vapour compression form. This dichotemy is discussed in a series of essays, along with other aspects and applications of heat pumps in heating, cooling and refrigeration.
Heat pumps suffer from an environmental dichotomy. On the one hand, they save fossil fuel energy, thereby reducing CO2 emissions. On the other hand, in the vapour compression form, they generally employ CFCs which are destructive to our protective ozone layer as well as contributing to the greenhouse effect. This volume contains 15 papers discussing these and other aspects of the application of heat pumps in heating, cooling and refrigeration.
