A study guide to the exams required for the US Coast Guard captain's ratings. Every question on the exams - a total of 6215 - is posed and answered. The accompanying CD-ROM randomly selects questions from the database to simulate a real exam, grade you, and tell you what you got wrong.
Know you'll pass before you take the exam. Here's the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to prepare for the U.S. Coast Guard captain's ratings exams required for anyone who takes paying passengers on a boat, and useful for serious boaters who want to save money on insurance. Included are the six-passenger "Six-Pack," Master and Mate Inland, Master and Mate Near Coastal, and Sail/Auxiliary Sail Endorsement. Every question and answer on the Coast Guard exams--all 6,215 of them--is provided. The interactive CD-ROM allows you to take an unlimited number of practice exams, randomly selects questions from the database, simulating a real exam, grades you, tells you which questions you got wrong, and keeps a log of your test results. This new edition brings the book up-to-date with the Coast Guard's expanded and revised database of questions and answers.

Charlie Wing received his Ph.D. in oceanography from MIT, where he later worked as a research scientist. Since then his career has been explaining how things work--teaching physics at Bowdoin College, founding Americas first two do-it-yourself house-building schools (the Shelter Institute and Cornerstone), hosting a PBS series on energy conservation, and writing a dozen top-selling books on home building, home maintenance, and remodeling. Wing lived aboard a cruising sailboat for six years, during which time he wrote the first edition of this book on a solar-powered Macintosh computer. He is the author of four other IM books.
