State-of-the-art text introducing readers to the rapidly developing field of pico-projection displays Pico-projection Systems provides readers with a good understanding of all the competing technologies in a clear and accessible manner. The author introduces and reviews the components involved in picoprojectors, including LEDs, lasers, microdisplays, optical components, etc. How all of these components work together as complete systems is then illustrated. A strong focus is put on image quality and system efficacy. The author introduces the history, motivations and applications of pico-projector technology, before exploring the two main pico-projector technologies, LED-based and laser-based projection architectures and within each of these chapters, a comprehensive technical review is provided of the state-of-the-art together with the fundamental characteristics and constraints in order to facilitate objective comparison. * Explains the basic concepts behind pico-projectors as well as exploring both the safety implications and potential markets. * Focus on system level considerations rather than component level issues.
* Includes LED-based and laser-based projection architectures, representing the two major candidate technologies currently under active development with comparable sub-sections for each to help highlight the comparative merits of the technologies. Essential reading for product development professionals in the consumer electronics and displays industries
Formerly of Light Blue Optics (LBO), Cambridge, UK, Dr. Buckley was one of the Founding Directors of the company developing and supplying miniature projection systems for use in high volume applications in markets including automotive, digital signage and consumer electronics. LBO was founded in 2004 by four postgraduate engineering students from the University of Cambridge to commercialise an efficient method for the real-time projection of full-colour video images using holographic laser projection. As a Founding Director, he raised a total of $30m in angel, seed and VC funding and generated $1.75m from prototype sales and exclusivity agreements. He led the company s participation in $4.7m European Union MUTED collaborative research Project and won a $150k DTI SMART award to accelerate development of LBO s projection technology. Dr. Buckley is now an independent consultant. He has 8 patents granted and has authored over 50 journal articles and conference papers.
