Bioprostheses in Cardiovascula

This book presents the results of a 25-year study focused on creation of cardiovascular bioprostheses and development of bioprosthetic replacement. Bioprostheses have been employed at the Kemerovo Cardiac Center since 1978. At present this institution is Russia's sole manufacturer of heart valve and blood vessel bioprostheses. The medical researchers and doctors continue experimental development of new bioprostheses and their clinical introduction. In the mid-80s an investigation was started at the Center aimed at prevention of the most important bioprosthesis-related complications: primary tissue failure and calcification, thromboembolism and infection. The results, part of which can be found in this publication, reveal the potential of bioprosthesis in cardiovascular surgery.
