Operation and Utilisation of the High Flux Reactor

The year 2001 is the second of the four years Supplementary Programme established by Council Decision of 24 January 2000 (opinion delivered on 15 December 1999), managed by IE and conducted with the new organisation of NRG, implemented since 1999, with NRG in charge of the commercial activities on the plant. Some excellent achievements were made: - 291 days of operation without significant problems. - About 73% of maximum occupation of the reactor by a variety of irradiation programmes. - Success in the fuel cycle with agreement on American supply for fuel and with spent fuel shipment to the US. - Creation of several new European networks around the HFR and its European programmes (NET, HTR-TN, EMIR). - Good progress in the studies for the fuel conversion to Low Enriched Uranium and for the new licence of the plant in 2003.
