Reviewing recent progress in the fundamental understanding of the molecule-metal interface, this useful addition to the literature focuses on experimental studies and introduces the latest analytical techniques as applied to this interface. The first part covers basic theory and initial principle studies, while the second part introduces readers to photoemission, STM, and synchrotron techniques to examine the atomic structure of the interfaces. The third part presents photoelectron spectroscopy, high-resolution UV photoelectron spectroscopy and electron spin resonance to study the electronic structure of the molecule-metal interface. In the closing chapter the editors discuss future perspectives.Written as a senior graduate or senior undergraduate textbook for students in physics, chemistry, materials science or engineering, the book's interdisciplinary approach makes it equally relevant for researchers working in the field of organic and molecular electronics.

Norbert Koch is professor for Supramolecular Systems at the Physics Department of the Humboldt-University in Berlin, Germany. He is also leader of a research group at the Helmholtz-Center for Materials and Energy which develops methods for studying organic materials interfaces. Norbert Koch has co-authored over 130 papers in the fields of interfaces with conjugated organic materials and organic electronics. Nobuo Ueno is Professor at the Department of Nanomaterial Science at Chiba University. He is also Director of the Advanced Institute of Molecular Electronics Studies and leader of an global Center-of-Excellence program on Organic Electronics. He is a councilor of The Japanese Society for Synchrotron Radiation Research and the Futaba Electronics Memorial Foundation. Nobuo Ueno is a pioneer and world leading authority on the ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy of organic thin films. Andrew Wee is Professor of Physics and Dean of the Faculty of Science at the National University of Singapore. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics UK and the Institute of Physics Singapore. Andrew Wee has co-authored over 350 papers in the field of surface and nanoscale science, and is co-author of a textbook on science at the nanoscale. He serves as Managing Editor and Regional Editor on the board of several journals on interface science and nanoscience.
