Covering all important capacitor materials and components, this much-needed book is the only up-to-date reference on recent developments in the field. Divided into four parts, the monograph starts off with the fundamental theory and principles of operation for the different types of supercapacitor systems. Parts two and three focus on the two most prominent classes of supercapacitors, oxidic and non-oxidic systems and their particularities. The final part covers the various electrolyte systems that are key materials for the operation and application fields of the capacitor systems. It is of interest to both researchers and students entering the field, as well as battery and electronic component manufacturers.

Prashant N. Kumta is full professor at at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Carnegie Mellon University, USA, since 1999. His research interests focus on the synthesis, structure and properties of nanostructured materials for electrochemical, electronic, bone tissue engineering, biomineralization, and non-viral gene delivery applications. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay in 1984 and went on to obtain his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1987 and 1990. He subsequently joined CMU as Assistant Professor. He is the recipient of the NSF Research Initiation Award (RIA) and has edited or co-edited 8 books, given more than 60 invited presentations and is the author and co-author of more than 150 refereed publications. He is currently the Editor of Materials Science and Engineering B, and internationally known for his accomplishments in the areas of energy storage materials and nanostructured biomaterials.
