Metallocenes are chemical compounds (also called sandwich compounds) where two cyclopentadienylide rings form a sandwich around a metallic ion. Since the early 1950s there has been an explosion of research into metallocenes and their applications, and metallocene chemistry is now an integral part of every undergraduate chemistry course.
