Miguel Gama received his Ph.D. in Biological Engineering at Minho University, in Portugal, in 1996. He is currently Associate Professor with Habilitation at Minho University, where he directs the FUNCARB Laboratory, a research group with about 20 researchers. He has authored/edited 4 books, over 100 papers in international journals, and 2 patents. Was the co-founder of a spinoff from Minho University, BNCTechnologies, dedicated to the development of applications for bacterial cellulose. His research interests include enzyme technology - enzymatic degradation of biomass - and the development of biomaterials, in particular bacterial cellulose, self-assembled amphiphilic nanogels and injectable hydrogels, aiming the development of applications for tissue regeneration and drug delivery.
