Schools, community youth clubs, leisure centres and child care facilities will use this book for planning safe outdoor and indoor play areas. Based on 10 years of research by the authors and more than 70 combined years of professional practice in the area of playground safety. It outlines the four main components of safe playground design: supervision, age-appropriate design, surfacing and equipment. The authors examine why each component is a critical part of safety and then explain how to put that knowledge to practical use. Readers will learn how play areas can be designed to provide maximum value while minimising risk factors. The CD-ROM includes a slide presentation package of key concepts from the text for use as foundational or refresher training.
