Part I - "The Early Years" describes the author's memories of the war in Germany; the ocean crossing as an immigrant family to Canada; the train ride to Saskatchewan; and life on the prairie
Part I - "The Early Years" recalls the author's early memories of the war and life in post war Germany; the harrowing ocean crossing as an immigrant family to Canada; the lengthy train journey through snow covered Canada; and a new life in a Mennonite enclave in rural Saskatchewan.
Part II - "USMLM Potsdam" jumps directly into the author's unique military assignment in the midst of the Cold War, shortly after the erection of the Berlin Wall, operating behind East German and Russian military lines. The author recounts two separate incidents involving the shoot-downs of U.S. military planes by Russian MIGs, criss-crossing through Soviet military maneuver areas, being chased by Russian and VOPO pursuit vehicles, being shot at and detained; and in a highly sobering moment, observing the stand-off between a U.S. military convoy en-route to West Berlin and Russian tanks in a test of strength and brinkmanship.
Part III - "DEA Agent" recalls the most interesting and exciting episodes the author experienced in his varied assignments during his thirty year career as a field agent, a supervisory agent and Narcotics Attache. He describes his undercover work with Turkish, Lebanese and American organized crime figures; his involvement with sting operations; and efforts at "institution building" in Burma, Poland, Czech Republic, Turkey and Germany.
Part IV - "Our Misguided Policies" draws from the author's varied life experiences discussed in the first three parts and transforms them into his own political and ideological thought. His sub-categories of War; Crime; Drugs; CIA, Religion and others, are interlaced with his own personal experiences and augmented with opinion letters to political leaders, pundits, and government powers to be.

My formative years were spent in Germany until my family immigrated first to Canada and later the United States. After serving a five year stint in the U.S. Air Force, I attended Florida State University where I received my degree in International Affairs. This was followed by a thirty year career with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) serving in a number of domestic and foreign assignments including Miami, New York, Washington, D.C., Munich and Istanbul until my retirement as the the Country Attache at the American Embassy in Bonn, Germany
