Shelton was named an honorary member of the National Museum of the American Indian for her volunteer work, participated in the international hunger relief organization “Rise Against Hunger,” participated in The Longest Walk in Washington, DC, and more. She is a member of the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She studied creative writing and poetry at NYU.
