In the post-September 11th political reality, the Bush administration is learning that maintaining alliances with the Arab world, support for the "war on terrorism" and regional stability in the Middle East all connect to the Israel-Palestine issue. This is a primer on the crisis.
Tanya Reinhart's Israel/Palestine is the most devastating critique now available of Israel's policy towards the Palestinian people. - Edward SaidTanya Reinhart's informative and chilling analysis could hardly be more timely. It should be read and considered with care, and taken very seriously. - Noam ChomskyIn the post-September 11 political reality, the Bush administration is learning that holding together alliances with the Arab world, support for the war on terrorism, and regional stability in the Middle East all connect to the Israel-Palestine issue. While US media increasingly report on the escalating violence between Israelis and Palestinians, little or no analysis is offered regarding the origins and history of the conflict, so needed to genuinely work toward dialogue and solutions. In Israel/Palestine: How to end the 1948 war, Israeli journalist Tanya Reinhart provides a primer on the current crisis. She closely examines the roots of the conflict, and offers an invaluable analysis of all sides of the issue, concluding with a proposal for moving beyond the violence to real solutions.
Drawing from maps and declassified Israeli sources, Reinhart studies the details of past negotiations, expectations, shortcomings, misinterpretations, and deceptions. Among Reinhart's areas of focus are the Oslo meetings; myths and facts about what happened at Camp David; and the politics of Barak and Sharon in relation to Arafat, the recent Taba negotiations, and prospects for genuine solutions. Israel/Palestine is an indispensable guide to understanding the Middle East and US involvement in the crisis today.

Tanya Reinhart is a professor of linguistics and cultural studies at Tel Aviv University and at the University of Utrecht. She is most well known academically for her contribution to theoretical linguistics. In 1994, following the Oslo agreement - which she viewed as a painful deception of the Palestinian people - and the preparation of a sophisticated Apartheid regime, she turned to political writing. She has had a regular critical column in the biggest Israeli daily, Yediot Aharonot, as well as many articles on the Internet and international forums.
