Provides hands-on experience for effective team-working in simulated obstetric emergency situations. PROMPT training has significant impact on maternal and neonatal outcomes.
The PROMPT (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training) Course covers a range of obstetric emergency situations. There is increasing evidence that PROMPT training is having significant impact on maternal and neonatal outcomes, delivering immense benefits for healthcare providers at all levels. The PROMPT training package consists of interactive lectures, drills and workshops, providing hands-on experience of practical skills and team working in simulated obstetric emergencies. This second edition of the Australia and New Zealand PROMPT Course Manual has been fully updated in line with recent evidence and national and international guidance. There are new modules, algorithms and implementation tools. The Course Manual is essential reading for all those attending a local multi-professional PROMPT Course. It is also useful as a stand-alone textbook for obstetricians, anaesthetists and midwives, providing evidence-based, up-to-date information for any health professional involved in maternity care.

Cathy Winter is the lead midwife for the PROMPT Maternity Foundation (PMF). She has been a senior labour ward midwife for over twenty years and is now the senior research midwife at North Bristol NHS Trust. For the past eighteen years, as part of a multi-professional team, she has been responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of local multi-professional obstetric emergencies training for all maternity staff at Southmead Hospital. As founder member of the PROMPT Maternity Foundation, Cathy has been integral to the development and dissemination of the PROMPT training package to many maternity units in the UK and across the world. Timothy Draycott is a Consultant Obstetrician at North Bristol NHS Trust and the obstetric research lead for the PROMPT Maternity Foundation. He has a research interest in patient safety, particularly multi-professional training, simulation, teamworking and quality improvement in maternity care. He has recently held a Health Foundation Improvement Science fellowship to investigate the effects of context on training and simulation.
