This book asserts that women attain higher levels of health in the mothering role when they achieve increased control over their own health, lifestyle and environment. Reflecting the philosophy of health promotion, it explores the meaning of the positive coping experience for new mothers, identifying the essential features of resilience in a new coping model based on ground-breaking analytical techniques. Further, the book discusses preventative strategies for building resilience and quality of life during the period of new motherhood, opening new horizons and dialogues related to what 'coping' can actually mean when underpinned by a well-being paradigm.

Dr Janet Currie's research chiefly focuses on perceptions of health experiences, including mental health, and participation in leisure and physical activity. Janet has designed and published numerous health promotion and well-being materials including kits, videos, teacher and community resources. Dr Currie is a past National President, Vice-President and State Representative of the Australian Health Promotion Association, Director and Chair of Health Education and Promotion International, and Director of the Board of ActivateUTS. She was awarded the Outstanding Community Engagement Award by Australian Catholic University for the highly successful Strollers Pramwalking program. This year she was appointed to the International Health, Wellness & Society Research Network
